Who Are We?

Making a long story short.....

From 1998-2000, my husband Dustin Gent was a missionary in Cebu, Philippines.  Although he was intended to be a "church planter", God planted a seed in his heart for the children of the city.  Children who were orphaned, abandoned and neglected.

During his time there he helped get a shelter for these kids opened and running.  After his return to the US in June 2000 he couldn't stop thinking about the children in Cebu.
However when he returned with a mission team in 2009, MERCY was being used as a vocational school and no longer housing youth in need of food, shelter and other care.

During the mission trip the team visited the dumpsites and found that thousands of children were still there - orphaned, abandoned just as they had been 9 years earlier.  We decided as a group of twelve that we couldn't just slap on a bandaid and leave them as they were.  We came home, raised support and through God opening many doors The Rescue Ministries was formed.

In January 2010, only 6 months later Wesley Home for Youth opened its doors to 9 youth in Liloan.  Since then we have led several mission teams back to Cebu, Philippines and in only 2 years WHY has grown to its capacity of 20 children.

We currently have several acres of land that has been donated and we plan to start building at some time during 2013.  Our vision is to house around 200-300 youth in the new facility, have a community church and school and reach out to the area on the island of Camotes.
